The Greensborough Football Club is thrilled to announce the appointment of Ryan Thomson as our Senior Men’s Coach for the 2027 season!
Ryan arrives at the Boro with an impressive coaching background, most recently serving as an Assistant Coach at Williamstown Football Club in the VFL, where he has been responsible for the forward line.
During his time at Williamstown, Ryan has worked alongside highly respected coaches including Justin Plapp and Danny Ryan, gaining valuable experience in a high-performance environment and further developing his knowledge of tactical preparation, player development and the demands of senior football.
Prior to Williamstown, Ryan held coaching roles at Wilston Grange Football Club in Queensland, working across both senior and junior football programs.
Throughout his coaching career, Ryan has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing young footballers, having helped numerous players progress into AFL and VFL environments. His passion for identifying talent, building confidence and helping players reach their potential is something we are incredibly excited to bring to the Boro.
Central to Ryan’s coaching philosophy is the belief that a strong club culture is the foundation of sustained success. He places great importance on team-first football, building relationships, establishing high standards and creating an environment where players can thrive.
Ryan will be supported by Brent Ryan (BR), who will take on an Assistant Coaching role in 2027. BR did a terrific job as our Development Coach throughout the 2026 season and is a much-loved and respected figure within our playing group. We’re delighted to have him continuing at the club.
Following our Senior side’s Grand Final appearance in 2026, we are excited to build on the foundations already in place. Ryan’s experience, coaching philosophy and commitment to player development make him an exciting appointment as we look to take the next step.
This marks an exciting new chapter for the Greensborough Football Club, and we can’t wait to see Ryan lead our talented playing group, supported by BR, in 2027 and beyond.
Please join us in giving Ryan a massive welcome to the Boro!
Welcome to Greensborough, Ryan!
