KEITH EVANS AWARD
The Keith Evans “Club Person” Award recognises an individual who best embodies the qualities that Keith brought to the club and the local community.
Keith’s football journey began as a junior player and umpire in the PDJFA, before he transitioned into coaching numerous GJFC teams. Many of the young players he mentored went on to play seniors for the GFC.
After his two sons joined the GJFC, his passion for developing young talent expanded into a greater vision: securing the long-term future of the GFC. He set about doing everything he could to turn that vision into a reality. Alongside his official role as Treasurer for the juniors (1995-1999), he devoted endless time and energy—collaborating with committee members, attending numerous meetings, and negotiating with the Banyule City Council. This monumental effort culminated in the relocation and establishment of the GJFC at Anthony Beale Reserve in 2001.
He continuously and quietly went above and beyond as the Treasurer of the GFC (1998–2003), spending copious amounts of his own time—often during work hours—managing club finances and general business. Keith truly did it all, from transporting supplies for functions and the canteen, fundraising & marketing, serving behind the bar, through to escorting umpires.
As an integral part of both clubs’ administration, Keith was awarded Life Membership at both the junior and senior clubs, in recognition of his extensive service, volunteer work and dedication.
This award honours the person who demonstrates that same level of unassuming devotion, passion, and commitment to the GFC.
