Ray Dickson 1932 – 1989
1955 – Ray and Bonnie Dickson moved to Greensborough from Elsternwick and built their home in Nell St.
1957 – Plays his first game for the Greensborough Football Club
1958 – Plays in in the 1958 A Grade Premiership side for Greensborough
1960 – While on the end of season trip to Mildura, Ray joined fellow club members Joe Murphy and Ray Skals in leading the vocals to Harold Fraser’s (song writer) composition of the ‘Boro Song’
1961 – Ray plays in the Reserve’s Premiership team for Greensborough
1962 – Plays and captains the Reserve’s Premiership team for Greensborough with Ray winning the Reserve grade Best and fairest award.
1964 – Ray was instrumental in setting up the Greensborough Juniors and was inaugural coach of the Greensborough U/13 ‘Blacks’
1966 – Ray receives Life Membership of the Greensborough Football Club
1968 – The DVFL take over the junior competition, with Greensborough fielding 2 x U15 sides (Colts & Rovers), and 4 x U13 sides (Blues, Blacks, Maroons and Golds)
1970 – Ray coaches the Greensborough U/13 ‘Black’s to a Premiership
1971 – Ray completes his final year as junior coach of the U/13 ‘Blacks’, where they were Runners UpÂ
1972 – Takes on goal umpiring for the U/11 ‘Golds’ in the first year of U/11 competition and was the start of his son’s (Russell) career
Over the years until his death in January 1989 (aged 56 years) Ray continued supporting the club by being a committee member, fund raiser (Friday Night raffles at the Greensborough Hotel), marking the oval and various other tasks around the clubrooms.
Ray was survived by his wife Bonnie (a GFC Life Member), Diane (current Senior grade Team Manager and GFC Life Member), Helen, Judy and Russell (2 x Premiership player, member of Team of the Century [1905-2005], Senior Premiership Coach [2006] and GFC Life Member)
