It was with great sadness to hear that Greensborough past champion player, life member and well known GFC stalwart Ray Skals passed away on Sunday 2nd April. Ray was a dual premiership player (1955 & 1958) and was known as a dashing full forward, who topped the league (DVFL) goal kicking in 1957 with 96 goals.
Ray played a key role in the establishment of Greensborough Junior Football Club and he was the inaugural coach of the Greensborough Under 13’s Maroons in 1966.
Ray was award GFC life membership in 1969 and was selected at Full Forward in the Greensborough Football Club’s Team of the Century in 2002.
Over the past 30 years, all the players loved to hear the stories that Ray told and the story of him booting 24 goals in one match, was a particular favourite, not only with the players but with Ray as well.
Condolences go to Betty his wife, who has tirelessly looked after Ray during his ill health and the entire Skals family.Rest in peace Ray – the club will miss you!
